Plastic Camera Photography by Jerry Cargill, Stephanie Dean & Marc Sirinsky, With a special camera obscura Installation by Clare Britt
Concurrently opening in the lower gallery space is what appears to be, at first read, an intriguing ménage a trios, but is in actuality a listing of three brands of plastic cameras, with which the work in this show has been created. Chicago photographers Jerry Cargill, Stephanie Dean, and Marc Sirinsky all use these inexpensive devices to create captivating images that are at once primitive and highly sophisticated. In the project room, Clare Britt, also of Chicago, will show work created with pin-hole and camera obscura. Britt has, over the past decade, fashioned cameras from object and spaces as diverse as vans, barns, footballs, and metal boxes she welded herself. In this exhibit the medium is indeed the message. |
