Assumed Identities
January 7 - February 11, 2005
Opening Reception: Friday, Janury 7, 5 - 9 pm

In the second gallery, FLATFILE presents ASSUMED IDENTITIES, featuring separate but equally provocative bodies of work by gallery artists Shauna Angel Blue and Christopher Schneberger.

Angel Blue shows self-portrait images, photographed in Vezelay, France, of herself as a 12th century orphaned child taken into and raised in a convent. In Angel Blue’s imagined history, the child, Madeleine Violet Blue, lived an idyllic life among the nuns and priests until the day of her 11th birthday, when she was abducted and killed. Schneberger, long intrigued with 19th century photographic processes, has stepped back in time to create the photographer’s studio and oeuvre of one Doctor Charles Addison in the gallery’s project room. Complete with Victorian furniture and multiple framed portraits of the Croswell twins, (one of whom has died under mysterious circumstances); this step back in time is eerily reminiscent of The Time Traveler’s Wife, the best-selling novel written by Schneberger’s girlfriend, Audrey Neffenegger.
