EARTH celebrates the beauty of our planet and comments on its devastation by humankind, exploring our simultaneous adoration and ravishment of the world we inhabit. It speaks to the questionable methodology of development and waste disposal as well as the magnificence of those vast areas that remain untouched.
The exhibit will be unique in that it will be a single show that occupies both of the galleries floors, and mix photography with other 2D and 3D art on both levels. The large group-show features a variety of work from artists from 19 to 70 years old, from young, un-shown to mid-career and established artists.
Europeans Lucien Clergue, (France), Susanne Hegman, (Germany) and Sue Tomlinson (UK), along with Americans Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin (MN), Beth Moon (CA), Chris Austin (NY), Janet Pritchard (CT), and Chicagoans Liz Cockrum and Bob Tanner, will show photography in the exhibition. Chicago Sculptors Edith Altman, Barbara Cooper, Mike Helbing and Dennis Lee Mitchell, along with installation artist Don Kelley (OH) will install site-specific pieces. In addition, Roy Staab (WI), and Charles Woodman (OH) video installations will occupy the gallerys project rooms. The show will also feature the distressed wood paintings of Chicago artist Mike Manthey.
Also featured through the month of December will be the Third Annual Affordable Art Gift Sale in the gallerys library. Aspiring and seasoned collectors will find photographs, drawings, paintings and other media at prices starting as low as $25 in a treasure trove of baskets and bins.
Also, as a courtesy to holiday shoppers, the gallery will be open on Sundays December 12 and 19, serving hot spiced cider and doughnuts from noon to 3:00pm. |
